Things to Do in Bayfield Ontario
This small, yet vibrant lake town is brimming with fun things to see, do, eat, and purchase. Here are a few of our favourite things that we stumbled upon while visiting on our Ontario road trip.
Pink Flamingo Bakery and Boutique
My loyal readers know of my crazed adoration for cupcakes. If it were healthy and not ultimately indulgent, I would have them for breakfast. Well, on pursuit for a tasty treat while in Bayfield Ontario, I stumbled upon the delightfully sweet Pink Flamingo Bakery and Boutique. A confection staple in town, Pink Flamingo offers a large variety of cupcakes, sweet treats, and fun decor items. Wash one down with a cuppa coffee for the ultimate culinary marriage. We enjoyed the chocolate sundae cupcake and the salted caramel flavour. There are gluten free, vegan, daily flavours, and other special desserts available as well.

ShopBike Coffee Roasters
As you know, we feature Local Coffee and Tea Shops around the world who bring the most delicious roasts and blends to caffeine addicts aficionados. Here in Bayfield Ontario we found another gem we loved – ShopBike. A cafe with charisma, this spot offers incredible lattes, teas, and other barista-crafted beverages, coupled with classic candy favourites, merchandise, and perfect pastries. We also loved the fun ambiance – a vintage cash register collecting profits and fair trade stances adorning the walls. Do yourself a favour – as a self-proclaimed coffee nerd, or someone just needing a pick-me-up after a day at the local beach, and grab a top-quality coffee at ShopBike.
So now I bring you a shop that captured my nostalgic soul. A consignment shop featuring all things vintage! My husband jests that I was born in the wrong decade as my loves are 90% things from the past – old sitcoms, old music, old movies, black and white everything. So you can pretty much bet your salary that seeing dresses, shoes, accessories, and other clothing that Jackie O would wear as well as beautiful gowns circa 1975 would completely capture my heart. I loved JMR as it is a local shop dedicated to bringing the fashion from the past back to the present for more than those once a year costume parties (so not cool.) I proudly wear my vintage clothing all over the place showcasing the styles that made Mary Tyler Moore and Cher famous. That Elizabeth Montgomery wowed everyone with on Bewitched and that Nancy Sinatra wore with her famous boots that were made for walking. Try on a bunch of stuff and buy what fits as they are one of a kind. If you hesitate and come back, it could be gone. So, taking my own advice, I left with four beautiful gowns…
The Village Bookshop
My husband collect books. You could say he’s a closet bookworm. The library Beast gives Belle in Beauty and the Beast has him green with envy as he aspires to collect just as many in our own collection. So of course, with this admiration for the original literary medium, we check out the local shops while exploring the gems of the cities we visit. Bayfield Ontario had one. A delightful shop- the Village Bookshop.
The Purple Peony
You cannot leave a little town without browsing for local trinkets. If you take my advice, you will leave with vintage clothing, books for the beach, and of course some cupcakes and coffee. But it doesn’t stop there! Head into the Purple Peony for some fun souvenirs and trinkets to adorn your homes to remind you of your time here. I loved the handmade flamingos in various vibrant colours. These puff balls were so cute and would look great on any mantle. If you love unicorns or mermaids like most of us lately, you will surely find some great magnets, coasters, popular pool floaties, and other fun stuff to buy. Or you could nab a Bozo desk-size punching bag. I got one of those for my husband and he honestly loves using it when we get our tax bills…
Clan Gregor Square
Want to relax with your cupcake and coffee amidst beautiful flowers and gardens? Head to Clan Gregor park and surround yourself with beautiful wild flowers, playgrounds, benches, and more. Sometimes there’s nothing like people-watching as you savour your cupcake with that perfectly crafted cuppa. Bayfield Ontario has you covered.
