First of all, a disclaimer
So before I delve into the details of the Keys to the Kingdom Tour and just why it should be on your Disney Itinerary, I think I better let you know this – Children are not permitted on the tour and older kids at impressionable 16-19 years old (16 is the minimum age for this tour) should NOT go. The magic of the characters, the parks, the entire experience is enhanced for adults, but could be detrimental to the dreams of your kids. So please don’t share the details I am about to provide or bring them on this tour! You will regret it if you do. Fill My Passport will not be responsible for crushed dreams, imaginations, or any other type of trauma this tour could cause on the Disney experience of my readers’ children and/or families.

The Keys to the Kingdom Tour – What It’s All About
So this incredible backstage pass of Walt Disney World takes guests to the unknown within the Happiest Place on Earth. It brings you behind the scenes on how cast members get their day going, where they take their breaks, where they become up to date on the goings on, and more.
Fun Facts and Trivia
So the tour begins on Main Street USA with a closer look at the buildings and sites within this often-skipped area of the parks. I always cringe when I hear guests running through this area as it is the depiction of Walt’s childhood and a true inside look at what shaped him into the creator and imagineer he became. Turn of the century themed architecture and town folk give this starting point the charm and magic it deserves. Learn the significance of the names on the windows, spot some statues and secrets that you may have passed over and not seen, and more. You will reach the backstage door to see the unseen.
So Walt Disney was a fan of consistency. Most of us are, but Walt was particular in his park. One day he saw a cast member dressed for work in Frontierland pass through Fantasyland and in his mind, threw off the moment for him and possibly other guests. This would never do! So to avoid such spoilers, he had the underground utilidors made for cast members to travel from one land to another without being seen. Brilliant. The tunnels are vast and there are maps everywhere for you to find your way. And, surprisingly, the walk from one land to another takes less time than above ground. On the Keys to the Kingdom tour, enjoy a mini view and experience in the Utilidors learning of some of the procedures and processes the Cast Members undergo on the job, see various costumes, notices, memos, and more. As you can imagine, no photography is allowed down here. I won’t get into too much detail on what is revealed within the Utilidors, but you see some very special behind the scenes moments in time. Plus rare photos of Walt Disney, the parks, and boards with many of the Disney Pins! That was so cool.
Another highlight on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour was the behind the scenes information and views of the parade preparation. It is amazing all the details and maintenance that is involved in the amazing floats we enjoy everyday coming down Main Street USA. Here, those on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour enjoy some fun facts about the floats and an insider look at just how they are prepared for the daily show.

The Jungle Cruise
A super neat element of the Keys to the Kingdom tour was an exclusive ride on the Jungle Cruise! The cast members give you insider info on the ride, the animatronics, and point out some of the most difficult Hidden Mickeys to find. You will get front of the line access and a ride just with other tour participants.
The Haunted Mansion
Another sneak peek provided to those on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour is an exclusive ride on the Haunted Mansion! See the ghosts up close and learn more about Mme Leota and more. The day we went, unfortunately there were technical difficulties, so they gave us fast passes to use at another attraction. But honestly, how amazing that would be to get an exclusive ride through the famous spooky mansion!
The tour concludes with your included lunch served at the border of Tomorrowland. Enjoy the chosen meal before departing with your group! We enjoyed our choices immensely!
Another incredible reason to take part in the Keys to the Kingdom tour is the exclusive and limited edition pin that you receive at the end! It is beautiful and only given to those who book the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. You are given the pin with your lunch at the end of the tour.
The tour concludes in the early afternoon for you to be on your way to your favourite attractions and shows. Total duration: approximately 5.5 hours.
Pro-tip: This is the pin we received. However, this may or may not be what you receive when you do the tour. Disney could change the offering at any time.
We thoroughly enjoyed the insider’s look at some of Disney’s most beloved characters, attractions, and ideas. We loved having the opportunity to see just how things are put together for the next to perfect experience given to guests. It isn’t for those who don’t want any magic to be explained. Do not take this tour if you don’t want to know how things are done. We loved it because of our adoration for Walt and his vision. We loved seeing the ideas and creations of Disney and how they came to be. Nostalgic to the core, I am so glad I was blessed to have the time in my busy trip to include the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. I hope the adult Disney nerds out there take the tour. You honestly will love it and have a fonder appreciation for what goes into the perfect day given to guests on stage.
