Why Disney’s Be Our Guest Restaurant is An Exceptional dinner Choice
There are more than 200 restaurants on the Walt Disney World property. You read that right – 200! So of course the Disney newbie would find this overwhelming when trying to choose restaurants to enjoy while on holiday. The Magic Kingdom has quite a few lovely themed restaurants giving guests that magic they expect while exploring the park. But there’s something about eating in a castle that just seems so magical and regal. Cinderella’s Round Table is a tough one to book – you pretty much need to book it 6 months in advance. But there is another castle that is just as enchanting and to me is a perfect choice for dinner – Be Our Guest Restaurant.
Be Our Guest Restaurant – Ambiance & Logistics
This restaurant is themed from the classic film Beauty and the Beast. The story and characters gained ultra popularity in 2017 when the live action adaptation was released starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. I personally love the film and found the characters quite believable. But even before last year, Disney fans embraced the animated classic that was made 27 years ago. With such popularity for nearly three decades there was no hesitation to bring a themed restaurant to Walt Disney World for visitors to dine and “Be Our Guest” as the dishes entertain (as per one of the film’s most notable songs).
Upon arrival, you will need to check in with the staff at the gate. Here, you will then be invited into the restaurant gated area to wait for your family to be called. Once called, the cast member, with Lumiere in hand, will escort you to your table, point out areas of the castle, and ensure all your questions are met. I found this to be such a nice touch. I loved the Lumiere figurine and ended up getting one of my own to take home 🙂 (but more on the best souvenirs at Disney later…). It definitely was apparent how enchanted I was by Lumiere that, the cast member handed me Lumiere for photos and to light our way to the table. It was so magical and made our experience all the more special.
Pro tip: Similar to the Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey’s and other character dining restaurants, it is imperative to make a reservation. Rarely can walk-ups be accommodated and you do not want to be disappointed. If you are staying on Walt Disney World Resort, you can make reservations up to 6 months in advance.
Be Our Guest Restaurant – The Castle Interior & Highlights
So the castle isn’t just a restaurant – it is a work of art full of beautiful extras to entertain and enchant guests. During your visit be sure to explore the castle before you leave. First of all, check out the gorgeous mosaics. They depict scenes from the movie and the artistry is definitely worth the time to admire them.
Secondly, check out the intricate tapestries hung along the walls. These all depict various scenes significant to the movie and definitely have old world charm. If you truly love them, some of the designs you can actually purchase in the gift shop beside the castle! Do check it out after your meal.
The West Wing
Just like the film, the West Wing is a place of mystery that definitely tests curiosity. Imagineers kept this plot point and included decor in this area of the castle matching the scenes and sets of the film. So when you venture there in the restaurant, you will of course see the Enchanted Rose displayed beautifully in the corner, the ripped photographs, and other details. Be sure to take a close look at the photograph. Not noticeable at first glance for many, but the picture does change from being a portrait of Adam to him transformed into a beast.
If you wish to eat in the West Wing while dining at the restaurant, make sure you specify when you make your reservation. It cannot be guaranteed, but you can definitely request this as you may find this room more magical than the grand ballroom. (Though eating in the grand ballroom where Belle and Beast had their first dance is pretty romantic…).
As you can imagine this restaurant is very popular. It is especially popular at dinner time as it is the only way you can meet the Beast. He does not appear at Breakfast or Lunch. If you are into character encounters and having your photos taken with Disney’s timeless and beloved characters than the bonus of meeting the Beast will definitely appeal to you more so than just the impressive menu. All guests who enjoy dinner at Be Our Guest restaurant get the opportunity to meet the Beast after eating. You line up in Beast’s castle study and await your opportunity. While waiting, check out the ornate decor that truly depicts the castle study in the film! When it’s your turn, enjoy the magical encounter and interact with the Beast as much as you want! Plus, a Memory maker photographer is on hand to capture your beautiful photos.
Pro Tip: Many guests (like myself) have a character autograph book. Sadly, the Beast DOES NOT sign autographs. So enjoy the photos, do some dance moves, (what he does with guests) and enjoy the enchantment 🙂
Be Our Guest Restaurant – The Dining Room & Tables
Arriving at our table, I knew it was going to be a wonderful evening of magic. The table was set to theme with red napkins rolled to resemble roses and menus adorning the beautiful images of the iconic and important Beauty and the Beast flower. The motif was definitely unexpected and quite accurate to reflect the important aspects of the film. I was very impressed with such attention to detail in a themed restaurant. When a restaurant makes this type of effort, you can only imagine the quality and detail taken in the offered dishes.
Be Our Guest Restaurant – The Food
So now to the food. I know that some restaurants on Disney property don’t get the best rap for the quality of food. However, I must say that I was very impressed with what we ordered here. First of all, those who use the Meal Plan will definitely find this restaurant to be a good use of a Table Service credit. First of all, the value and price point is on par with other character dining restaurants, and they have a great range of dishes to choose from. Secondly, as introduced in 2018, guests over 21 can enjoy an alcoholic beverage. Not every restaurant has a large selection of drinks, but Be Our Guest definitely had great options. We opted for the Sauteed Shrimp and Scallops, as well as the Roasted Lamb, a beer, refreshing rose wine, and of course dessert from the cart.
The bread rolls were impressive. They were served warm and fresh, allowing for the butter to melt inside. I was happy about this as I have very sensitive teeth that cannot bite into overly crispy breads and other foods.
The Sauteed Shrimp and Scallops were very tasty. The seafood was cooked perfectly (not the rubbery texture that frequently plagues shellfish dishes. The sauce was very flavourful and not too thick. The vegetables and noodles were cooked very well and the portion size was just right. I find quite often the portions of food are simply too big nowadays. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this pasta dish and was able to finish the entire helping.
So my hubby is a massive lover of lamb dishes. So of course he just had to try the dish here at Be Our Guest. He said the meat was nice and tender, cooked beautifully and the vegetables perfectly cooked to his liking. The portion size is ample, but won’t make you feel too full.
There are many dessert choices from the cart. The server will go over the different selections for you to choose from. There are a variety of petit fours including cupcakes, cream puffs, and of course “The Gray Stuff.” You know, “Try the Gray Stuff it’s delicious, don’t believe me ask the dishes…” Well, now is your chance to give it a whirl.
We opted for the Strawberry Cream Cheese cupcake and the Lemon Meringue cupcake – both moist and bursts of sweetness and flavours. As a major cupcake enthusiast known for her mini addiction to these little cake bundles of goodness, I can honestly state that these were some of the best I have had in the Disney Parks.
So thanks to my husband, we headed to Walt Disney World for my birthday. And Be Our Guest Restaurant does not ignore such an occasion! I was showered with wishes, given a card signed by Belle and Beast, and given some “Gray Stuff” to try in the shape of a Hidden Mickey. Now, the Gray Stuff to me was OK. It didn’t have a strong flavour as it tasted mostly like gray coloured buttercream. I was happy with the small taste and the birthday wishes much more. Make sure you wear your free celebration pin (you can get one at any store, any resort, and from a bin on Main Street USA).
Be Our Guest – Final Thoughts
I would highly recommend this restaurant to guests looking for an enchanting evening that includes unique menu items, themed dining perfectly executed for guests to feel a part of the classic film, and for the chance to meet one of the most iconic Disney characters of all time.
Remember, reservations are crucial and can be difficult to obtain if not set way in advance of your vacation. Getting escorted to dinner by Lumiere alone is worth the visit as well as seeing the incredible Enchanted Rose.
If you are not on the meal plan and are going to pick just one restaurant to indulge in the Magic Kingdom, I truly believe and feel it should be this one.
