Our Final New Year’s Resolution Affirmation comes from Gina of One Day in a City. She has sent through her resolution for 2018 to explore her own backyard – a very popular aspiration this year. Now read on about her goal to adapt the concept to discover the Hidden Gems of Where You Live this year.

Hidden Gems of Where You Live…

My New Year’s Resolution is to explore the gorgeous area I call home more. I live in the Pacific Northwest and moved here two years ago from San Diego. Since then I’ve enjoyed weekend getaways around the region with my family. Everything is so green up here, which I love, and there are a variety of outdoor activities and city sites to see. However, despite trying to get out of town as much as possible on the weekends, I haven’t explored much during the week.

My New Year’s Resolution is centered around this because I am a work at home mom and I have a flexible work schedule during the week, but I have a toddler and a baby and the thought of doing big adventures with them without my husband in tow still feels overwhelming sometimes! However, I know it’s something that gets easier each time you do it so in 2018 I want to do day trips to places with my daughters in the Pacific Northwest that we haven’t visited before.

Seattle Sunset – Discover Hidden Gems of Where You Live
There are so many things to see that are within an hour or two drive: waterfalls, scenic parks, city sights (keep meaning to get to the Fremont Troll in Seattle!), rugged beaches, and the iconic Mount Rainier, which I’ve still only seen from afar.
I am truly going to adopt the premise to discover Hidden Gems of Where You Live. And in doing so, I’d like to see and explore more (besides the Fremont Troll and Mount Rainier) in Washington are:
• Beaches by the Puget Sounds in West Seattle
• The Seattle Aquarium
• Cherry Creek Falls in Duvall
• Washington’s Pacific Ocean coastline
• Visiting Bellevue Downtown Park
• Taking a ferry to Bainbridge Island
• Coffee shops beyond the Starbucks drive-through!
Getting out of the house and exploring Hidden Gems of Where You Live with two young children won’t be easy, but I think if I make a commitment to keep trying to get out and explore during the week in 2018, it will get easier and feel less overwhelming every time. And, of course, I’ll keep doing weekend getaways with my family, too. Wouldn’t want my husband feeling left out! 😉
