Brouwerij’t IJ Has One of the Best Brewery Tours in Amsterdam
I am not the biggest of beer fans. There. I just came out of the closet. Strange thing as I’m Canadian and the stereotype follows my every move when in culinary and libation situations. Nevertheless, I do enjoy the odd sampling of local brewed beers as well as doing brewery tours when abroad as I find they have more taste, are interesting, and use fewer processed ingredients. Ketki, the writer and founder behind the blog Explore with Ecokats feels similar to this. She found a great spot in the Netherlands. I think it would even be safe to say, one of the best brewery tours in Amsterdam – at Brouwerij’t IJ.

Of all the brewery tours in Amsterdam…
My husband and I always make it a point to visit local places for food and drinks. This immerses us in the moment and gives us the real feel of the city. On our last trip to Amsterdam, we asked our accommodation host to recommend a brewery serving craft beer. His immediate answer was Brouwerij’t IJ; Excitedly we looked up how to get there. Sadly it was quite far from the city centre towards the eastern side. However, after the host’s description of the brewery and how it is one of the best brewery tours in Amsterdam, we decided to give it a go with a promise to see some countryside at the same time.
Brouwerij’t IJ brewery is located next to a windmill (there are very few windmills remaining in the city, so spotting one meant, winning!). The vibe of the place was awesome and as we had heard it offered one of the best brewery tours in Amsterdam, we inquired about booking one. Unfortunately the day we went it was closed, but not all is lost. We decided to check out the menu. They brew seven standard beers, including Zatte, their first creation; IJwit, a full-bodied wheat beer; a pils and an amber as well as the double Natte. They also produce a small selection of seasonal beers such as IJbok, a fruity, autumnal bokbier (strong, dark lager). You can choose to have all 7 as part of tasting board. We decided to go for 2 flavors in beer mugs along with some Dutch cheese.

The ambiance here is top notch with or without a tour. You can sit at the bar or mingle with the locals. We had a great time socializing with two locals and had the best conversation about beer as we were drinking beer!

To this day, I haven’t tasted a better beer than those crafted at Brouwerij’t IJ,. After this experience I can safely say it was one of my favourites as well as a favourite amongst the locals. It is no surprise that this is one of the best brewery tours in Amsterdam offering some of the best beer at a most reasonable price. To book your experience, check out their website.
