Celebrating your Birthday is the best thing on your Walt Disney World Bucket List
The happiest place on earth is just that. When you enter any of the Disney parks, you are instantly enchanted. So imagine what it’s like when it’s a special occasion. An anniversary, a honeymoon, a birthday. I recently visited the parks on my 39th birthday and was seriously treated like royalty. Here’s a round-up of the pixie dust I received and what you may expect if you make celebrating a birthday a definite on your Walt Disney World bucket list.
Tick it off Your Walt Disney World Bucket List…
So you have a celebration coming up. Yay! There is no better place to celebrate than at Walt Disney World. For the sake of this informative post, it will be focusing on the perks and pixie dust that came from a Birthday and tips to celebrating this occasion. But trust me, all special milestones are important and are magical. A friend of mine honeymooned at Disney and she and her new husband were showered with wishes and definitely didn’t want to go home. Below I will give you the lowdown on some of the things to do to ensure the cast members know about your big day as well as the things that happened for me when I celebrated my birthday.
Please Note: I am writing about what happened for me and how I was treated at Walt Disney World in Orlando for my birthday. There is no guarantee that any of the things (other than those noted accordingly) will happen for you. Each experience is different. If the pixie dust extras don’t happen for you, it is not influenced, decided, or implied by Fill My Passport. You may experience different pixie dust moments and memories. All extras by cast members in the parks are at the discretion of them and Walt Disney World.
1 – First Tip, Tell The Reservations Team Upon Booking
So, you’re heading to Walt Disney World for your birthday. Best time ever. Seriously. The first thing you need to do to make this the ultimate celebration is to advise the booking agent at Disney vacations of this momentous occasion. I say this as they will make sure it is on your file. You see, all your vacation information – hotel reservations, dining plans, magic bands, flight details, extra tours, Memory Maker, and other reservations are all attached to your file and vacation. This information is shared with the cast members at your resort, in the restaurants, etc. They will see the note about your birthday and help you celebrate at the parks.
Upon check-in at the Art of Animation Resort for my birthday, the cast member who checked us in automatically gave me the complimentary birthday button, wished me a happy birthday and advised the other cast members while I was getting the details of our trip.
2 – The Celebration Buttons
I alluded to these in the first tip! The cast member who checked me in to my room at the resort gave me the button automatically thanks to the reservation agent adding the occasion to my file. However, if this didn’t happen for you, no sweat, you can get your button easily! They are available at the entrance to the parks, at all resorts, and many cast members also carry them around with them. They may not have buttons for all occasions, so it is wise to go to a shop. They are FREE and by wearing one, all cast members you pass for the most part will acknowledge your birthday and wish you a happy one! You never know, you may also get extra Pixie Dust from cast members who wish to go that step further.
3 – Buy the Birthday Mickey Mouse Ears
So you seriously need to buy these Mickey Mouse ears once you arrive at the parks. They are available right on Main Street USA among the other styles. These are a sure-fire way of grabbing cast members’ attention that it is your birthday. Yes, you may have the button, but perhaps it is chilly and you are wearing a coat or sweater covering it. At least with the funky birthday ears the world will know of your special day. Plus they are super stylish and will give you great memories for years to come. I love mine and have no regrets. They are the nerdiest of nerdy and I’m proud of them!
4 – The Birthday Wake Up Call
So I find those beeping alarms the most annoying things ever invented. I want to throw my alarm clock out the window. Well, at Disney in the resorts they have the awesome perk of receiving wake up calls from Mickey Mouse daily. Just call down to reception and they will set it up for you. BUT! For your birthday, tell them it’s your special day and you will get a different wake up message! A birthday message, sung Happy Birthday! and extra pixie dust from Goofy!! How chuffed I was to receive this wake up call. Do it. You will be charmed.
5 – Buy the Memory Maker
So this investment I will always recommend (review coming soon!) It is $149 when you buy it prior to your arrival and more if you buy it when in the parks. But seriously guys, you get all the ride photos, all the photos at character meet and greets, and bonus stuff of stock images, videos, magic pics and more. I tell you to consider this for celebrating a birthday and adding it to your Walt Disney World bucket list because sometimes you are chosen for special photos and other things when you have the memory maker. For example, while in the parade watching area, the Memory Maker photographer chose me as it was my birthday for some photos with a Happy Birthday sign. Plus when you get home you will see all your birthday memories. Win win.
Pixie Dust Birthday Moments That Could Happen for You
What I love about Walt Disney World as that the cast members and the park itself want to make wishes come true and make every effort to give guests the vacation of a lifetime. Pixie Dust moments are little extras given to guests to make their trips extra special. These are especially given when an occasion is known. These are some of the things that happened for me. Remember, these things may happen for you, different moments may happen for you, and NOTHING is guaranteed.
Pixie Dust Moment ticks on your Wald Disney World Bucket List
One of the wonderful moments I received was a cupcake from Starbucks on Main Street USA in Magic Kingdom. A cast member noticed my button and birthday ears, saw me standing waiting for the parade, and brought me a strawberry filled cupcake. This was such a lovely gesture. And, the cupcake was AMAZING.
The Main Street USA Barber Shop
This was a cute little extra. My hubby was getting a haircut here and because the hair stylists saw my button, added pixie dust sparkles in my hair! Such a fun little extra while in the parks.
I was truly enchanted at the Guest Relations office in Main Street USA. I headed there to check out their pin trading binder and the cast member gave me a special pin for my birthday. I was very touched by his gesture.
This is one of my favourite spots in the Magic Kingdom to grab a snack. The coffee is great, the location is just outside the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on the cusp of Tomorrowland, and the Cheshire Cat Tails are superb. We decided to use a couple of our snack credits here and the cast member gave me a complimentary coffee for my birthday. It truly made my mid-morning!
So the Fairy Godmother appears daily near the castle. However, her time is very limited and the lines do get lengthy very quickly. I had arrived to get my photo with her as I missed her the last time I was there. I was last in line and she was about to leave. The cast members asked her for one more Bibbiddi Bobbiddi Boo for my because it was my birthday. She happily obliged. I was so happy. Extra pixie dust.
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom
We decided to play the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game! (Review coming soon!) and signed up at the Fire Station in Main Street USA. The cast members gave me a couple of extra cards that I didn’t have for my collection! Keep in mind it is totally up to cast member discretion, but I was so thrilled to receive them!
The Bakery in Norway – Epcot World Showcase
When at Epcot, head to the Norway Bakery for a treat. I believe it is one of the best bakeries and eateries in the entire Disney complex and for good reason! Indulge in Anna’s Birthday Cupcake! I chose that for a snack credit and the cast members gave it to me for my birthday! It was one of the best cupcakes I’ve ever eaten. This was especially thanks to the marshmallow filling in the middle…
Opening the Mexico Pavilion in the World Showcase
Normally all the youngen’s get this privilege, but as it was my birthday, the cast members called me up to help open the pavilion in their special presentation. I was the oldest one up there, but it was so fun.
These were a few of the Pixie Dust highlights I received above and beyond while at the parks! Now, even though these are random and not guaranteed, there are some special birthday moments the parks do for celebrations. Here are the highlights from the restaurants we went to and how my birthday was recognized.
When enjoying our dinner here at Skipper Canteen in Adventureland across from the Jungle Cruise, I was brought a lovely dessert with a candle by the cast members. Chances are if the restaurant knows it’s your birthday (which they will if you are on a dining plan and told the reservations agent as advised above), you too will receive a special sweet treat.
Be Our Guest
This was a true delight of an experience! Dinner at Be Our Guest! Make sure you make reservations way ahead of time as it is one of the most difficult to obtain. At the end, as it was my birthday, they brought me a special helping of “The Gray Stuff” in the shape of a hidden Mickey and candle! They also brought a card signed by Belle and Beast 🙂
I highly recommend enjoying a buffet meal with the characters from 100 Acre Woods at Crystal Palace! Meet Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore, enjoy some of the sweetest little themed desserts, AND, a lit cupcake and greeting card from them all 🙂 Such a sweet ending to such a sweet little dining experience.
This is one of my favourite restaurants in all of the Magic Kingdom! (Review coming soon!) Located in Liberty Square, this wonderful restaurant takes you back to the times of the first Thanksgiving with sharing plates for all at the table to share. Here, we enjoyed the sharing dessert along with a nice sentiment. She also personally gave me a light-up glass! This is not the usual at the restaurant but she personally purchased it for me seeing as it was our last night at the parks and I was full to the brim with dessert 🙂
Akershus – Epcot World Showcase
I love this restaurant! We headed here for birthday lunch with the princesses! Here, enjoy delicious food and meet and greets with Belle, Snow White, Cinderella, Snow White, Ariel, and Aurora. (keep in mind particular princess appearances are not guaranteed, but you will meet some!) Here, a birthday cupcake was given to me as well as a wonderful signed card by the royal ladies. Review coming soon!
Teppen ado – Japan, World Showcase
Get a taste of Japan with authentic Teppanaki! Enjoy the presentation as well as the delicious food you are about to eat get cooked and flavoured. For my birthday, I was given a fun Japanese chef hat and a sweet treat. Review coming soon on this great cultural restaurant!
Sci-Fi Drive In – Hollywood Studios
At the Hollywood Studios park, head on over to the Sci-Fi Drive-in! Sit in a fun car, watch animated classics, and eat great grub! The milkshakes are exceptional here, not to mention the burgers. But the cupcake birthday treat is a great highlight of the entire experience. Review coming soon!
Ohana’s – Polynesian Resort
This is one of my favourite spots for a meal! Head here for Breakfast and enjoy Hawaiian bread, sharing plates, and more. Meet Lilo and Stitch and get a special birthday greeting for them as well as Polynesian Mickey Mouse and Pluto! Review coming soon!
So there you have a few of the highlights you may experience when at the parks for your birthday or other celebration! Remember, the Pixie Dust moments are solely at the discretion of the cast members, but you are very likely to have the experiences I shared at the restaurants. Enjoy your celebration and make sure you tick off everything you can on your Walt Disney World bucket list.
